  • Astronauts Jessica Meir and Sophie Adenot will connect live during the opening day on Tuesday 14 April with the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville from the International Space Station at a particularly significant moment for the space industry following the return to Earth of the Artemis II mission.
  • New Space & Solutions – “Where we tell you what New Space does for us” will take place from 14 to 17 April 2026 in Seville, combining two in-person sessions at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – at Sevilla TechPark, with two further sessions in a virtual format.

Seville is reinforcing its position as one of southern Europe’s leading technology hubs with the start tomorrow, Tuesday 14 April, of the second edition of New Space & Solutions, an event that once again places the city at the heart of the international space ecosystem. The growth experienced in recent years, driven by strategic milestones such as the city’s selection as the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency and the implementation of initiatives such as ESA-BIC Andalusia, amongst other projects, reflects Seville’s increasingly significant role in the development of the aerospace sector, with the strong backing of the City Council.

In this context, New Space & Solutions – “Where we tell you what New Space does for us”, to be held from 14 to 17 April with two in-person sessions at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – at Sevilla TechPark and another two in a virtual format, features a high-level programme that will bring together more than 120 speakers from 18 countries and representatives from over 100 organisations within the global space ecosystem.

These include leading international space agencies such as NASA, the European Space Agency, the Spanish Space Agency and JAXA, as well as the Brazilian Space Agency, the Swedish Space Agency, the Bahrain Space Agency and the Chilean Space Association, underlining the event’s international character.

Alongside them, leading institutions, companies, universities and research centres will be taking part, including Axiom Space, DLR, HisdeSat, Hispasat, the European Commission, the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Galician Regional Government, Ametic, Andalucía Aerospace Business Cluster, Canary Islands Aerospace Cluster, Mission ShakthiSAT, Austrian Space Forum, Espai Aero, Spanish Air and Space Force, Sevilla TechPark, Alter, Telespazio, European Space Capital, CVA – Community of Ariane Cities, Aytana, Amazon, Airbus, Oesia, Maxwell, CTA (Andalusian Technology Corporation), Cotesa, ESA-BIC Andalusia, National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), Hisperion, Euroavia, Surtam, University of Seville, University of Huelva, University of Córdoba, University of Almería, University of Granada, University of Jaén, University of Cádiz, University of Coimbra, Loyola University, CEU Fernando III University, AstroEmociones, Orbital Bridge, OBA Space, Olma Space, Titan Space Industries, Coheteros, Albor Space, Iceye, Comet Aerospace, Castelló Airport, Emxys, Green Moon Project, Ellas Vuelan Alto, Space Academy Camp, Genius Gifted and El Observatorio.

New Space & Solutions 2026 will also address some of the key questions shaping the development of the space sector and its impact on society: How does space help us in our daily lives? Why is there increasing investment in space infrastructure? What projects and solutions are companies, universities and institutions working on? How will space contribute to progress in areas such as health, emergencies, sustainability and connectivity? These issues will form the focus of the event’s discussions and content.

Live link-up with the International Space Station

One of the most eagerly awaited moments will take place on the opening day, with a live link-up with the International Space Station, which orbits some 400 kilometres from Earth. Active astronauts will take part in this conversation, including Commander Jessica Meir and French astronaut Sophie Adenot, who will share their experiences of microgravity, as well as the challenges and advances in space research.

On the left, ESA French astronaut and mission specialist Sophie Adenot; on the right, NASA astronaut and US commander Jessica Meir.

The session will also feature contributions from representatives of Andalusian institutions and a particularly inspiring segment featuring Daniel Castro, a 14-year-old from Seville studying at Pablo de Olavide University, and Alejandra Estévez, a 17-year-old student at the Marista San Fernando School in Seville, who will have the opportunity to ask the astronauts questions live.

Seville, the institutional driving force behind the space ecosystem

New Space & Solutions enjoys strong institutional backing, with the Seville City Council playing a prominent role. The institutional segment on the opening day will be opened by the mayor, José Luis Sanz, who will welcome attendees, accompanied by Álvaro Pimentel, deputy mayor and councillor for Cartuja, Innovation Parks, Employment, Economy, Trade and Consumer Affairs. During the opening session, they will be joined by Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; Juan Carlos Cortés, Director of the Spanish Space Agency; Ana María Molina, CEO of Hisdesat; and Miguel Belló, Commissioner for the Canary Islands Aerospace Strategy, alongside representatives from the Regional Government of Andalusia.

During this opening day, a tribute will also be paid to Ricardo Medina, founder of Medina Media, the company organising New Space & Solutions and other events such as the 5G Forum and the 4K HDR Summit.

The City Council will also host various discussion forums, including the panel ‘Seville and Rome in the Ariane Cities Community: boosting the local economy through the space sector’, which will analyse the role of both cities as drivers of the sector’s development.

Talent, universities and links to the productive sector

One of the main themes of this edition will be the promotion of young talent and the strategic role of universities in the development of the space sector, with the participation of the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

Universities are establishing themselves as key players in the ecosystem, not only as generators of knowledge but also as providers of highly qualified professionals. In this regard, universities from all Andalusian provinces will be present, alongside national and international institutions, with a notable participation from Pablo de Olavide University, as well as the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Collaboration between universities and businesses will be one of the cornerstones of the event, strengthening the link between training, research and employability in a rapidly expanding sector.

International leaders and a strategic vision for the sector

The event will feature key figures from the sector such as Michael López-Alegría, chief astronaut at Axiom Space, and Pedro Duque, Spanish astronaut and president of Hispasat, who will address the major challenges facing the space sector, with particular focus on Europe’s position in the new space economy vis-à-vis powers such as the United States and China.

For his part, the director of the Spanish Space Agency, Juan Carlos Cortés, will play a prominent role during the opening day and will feature in an interview in which he will analyse the global context of the sector, marked by the rise of the space economy, the ESA Ministerial Council (MC25) and the progress of programmes such as Artemis II.

Juan Carlos Cortés, director of the Spanish Space Agency, during his participation in the first edition of New Space & Solutions held in 2025.

Likewise, Ana María Marín Pérez, Director of the Technical Office of the Director of the Spanish Space Agency, will address the sector’s regulatory challenges in a context of global transformation.

A forum to address the major challenges of New Space

New Space & Solutions 2026 will address the sector’s key trends and challenges, including the Atlantic Constellation, the National Space Strategy, space diplomacy, sustainability, emergencies, security and defence, as well as the development of the new space economy and public procurement policies for innovation.

The event will also focus on promoting STEM careers and the role of astronauts as role models for new generations, strengthening dialogue between public administration, universities and businesses.

Furthermore, New Space & Solutions will once again reaffirm its commitment to equality and the visibility of female talent, with the participation of more than 40 women on panels and a specific session dedicated to female leadership in the sector.

A prominent exhibition area featuring 18 organisations

In addition to all this, there was a prominent exhibition area where around twenty organisations will showcase their key innovations and projects during the in-person event, offering a tangible insight into the potential of the New Space ecosystem.
