Where we talk about what New Space does for us
14 - 17 April, 2026 - II EDITION

Space consolidates its position as a strategic infrastructure for security, sustainability and crisis management

Thursday March 12, 2026 | Evento

  • Companies, public institutions, research centres and legal and technological organisations such as SETELECO, the European Commission, Bufete Mas y Calvet, the Regional Government of Galicia, the University of Cádiz, Alter Technology, CATEC, Open Cosmos and DEKRA will analyse at New Space & Solutions how New Space is generating solutions with a direct impact on society from their respective fields of expertise.
  • From the protection of critical infrastructure to emergency management and environmental analysis, space technologies are now part of the essential services of modern societies.
  • New Space & Solutions will hold its second edition from 14 to 17 April 2026 with two in-person days at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – and another two virtual days.

The growing role of the space sector in areas such as security, sustainability and crisis management confirms that space has become a strategic infrastructure for the European economy and society. Space technologies are no longer limited to scientific missions or exploration, but have been integrated into services that are essential to the functioning of modern societies.

This will be one of the themes of the second edition of New Space & Solutions – “Where we tell you what New Space does for us”, to be held from 14 to 17 April in Seville. The event will bring together public administrations, universities, research centres and companies with the aim of promoting dialogue and accelerating the development of space-based technological solutions with a direct impact on society. New Space & Solutions 2026 will be held in a hybrid format with two face-to-face days at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – located in Seville TechPark, on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 April, and another two virtual days on Thursday 16 and Friday 17.

Spectrum regulation and management for satellite services

One of the fundamental elements for the operation of space systems is radio spectrum management, which is essential to ensure the interoperability and proper functioning of satellite communications.

Julia Criado, Deputy Director General of Radio Spectrum Planning and Management at SETELECO, will participate in this area, addressing the role of spectrum planning in the development of satellite radio communication services, as well as its impact on global connectivity, the security of critical infrastructure and the evolution of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs).

Scientific research and human performance in extreme environments

New Space & Solutions will also address an increasingly relevant dimension in the space sector: the human factor in complex missions and extreme environments.

In this context, the main lines of research of the Laboratory of Neuropsychology and Experimental Psychology (Neurotek Lab) of the University of Cádiz, developed within the framework of international projects, will be presented.

Sara González de la Torre Muñoz, Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cádiz, will talk about this research, which analyses key aspects such as human performance in extreme environments; cognitive factors in complex missions; team dynamics in conditions of isolation and confinement; and human-robot interaction in advanced operational environments.

The projects use space analogues as experimental platforms to validate training protocols, monitor team performance and analyse decision-making under high operational load conditions with the aim of developing advanced human-machine cooperation models that improve team preparedness for space missions and other critical environments.

Space, security and defence in the new geostrategic context

Space has also become a central element of security and defence strategies in the current international scenario.

Carmen Sillero, Senior Analyst for Economics and Policy at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, will participate in this area, analysing the role of the space industry in Andalusia and the opportunities opening up in the new European defence scenario.

Her presentation is part of the REGDUALOSA project, developed by the Joint Research Centre in collaboration with the Regional Government of Andalusia. This initiative analyses the potential of strategic technology sectors in Europe, alongside similar projects in cyber defence in Estonia and UAV technologies in Poland.

The study identifies the space sector as a strategic dual-use opportunity, capable of strengthening Andalusia’s position within the European defence industry.

Emergency management and critical infrastructure

The concept of dual use of space — capable of combining civil and strategic applications — will be one of the central themes of a specific panel on defence and space applications in which Efrén Díaz Díaz, Head of the Space Area at the Mas y Calvet Law Firm; Carlos Fernández de la Peña, CEO of Telespazio Ibérica; and Margarita Ardao, Director General of Industrial Strategy and Business Land at the Regional Government of Galicia.

This panel will analyse how space technologies are evolving towards a model in which the same capabilities can be applied to both security and defence and to civil services, from Earth observation to emergency management and the protection of critical infrastructure.

An industrial ecosystem at the service of society

The development of all these applications is supported by an increasingly broad industrial ecosystem, involving companies and technology centres specialising in satellite communications, Earth observation, data analysis and technology certification.

New Space & Solutions will be attended by many of these organisations, which enable the development of solutions with a direct impact on society, from environmental monitoring and emergency management to the protection of critical infrastructure and support for security and defence operations.

Alter Technology, which specialises in the certification and qualification of space components, will be represented by Nieves García Alcaide, Microwave Engineer, and David Núñez, Hi-Rel Semiconductors Division Director. CATEC (Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies), a European leader in UAV technologies and advanced aerospace systems, will be represented by Antidio Viguria, Director of Avionics and Systems. Open Cosmos, a company dedicated to the design and operation of satellites and the democratisation of access to space, will also be present.

Likewise, DEKRA Testing and Certification, which specialises in safety and cybersecurity certification for critical technology systems, will present the topic ‘Cybersecurity in Defence and Space and the importance of product safety certification’ on the second day of the event, with Antonio David Vizcaíno, Cybersecurity Technical Sales.

The second edition of New Space & Solutions thus aims to establish itself as a meeting place for science, industry and institutions at a time when the space sector is emerging as one of the strategic pillars for Europe’s technological, economic and security future.

All the conferences at New Space & Solutions will be available for viewing on demand via The Observatory, Medina Media Events’ digital platform, where each conference will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge.

The second edition of New Space & Solutions is organised by Medina Media Events and supported by Seville City Council; the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia; the Regional Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment; the Regional Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines, Canary Islands Aerospace Strategy (Government of the Canary Islands), Netmetrix, Sceye, Rohde & Schwarz, PCB Piezotronics, Pablo de Olavide University, CATEC, Isdefe, UARX, HALO Space, Kistler, Eurecat, DEKRA, Open Cosmos, Solar MEMS, B2Space, Quside, Systratec, Keplerkoord, Augusta Abogados, Bufete Mas y Calvet, LORTEK, Flux, Metadev, NDK, Alfalite, University of Malaga, the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Amplify, among others.
