- Seville City Council will play a leading role in New Space & Solutions 2026, driving key initiatives for the development of the space sector and the city’s international profile.
The city of Seville continues to establish itself as one of the main emerging hubs of the space industry in Europe. Against a backdrop of sector growth driven by New Space, the Andalusian capital is strengthening its position thanks to a strategy that combines talent attraction, business development and institutional support.
This leading role will be reflected in the second edition of New Space & Solutions – “Where we tell you what New Space does for us”, to be held from 14 to 17 April, where Seville City Council will have a prominent presence as one of the key players in the development of the space ecosystem in southern Europe. New Space & Solutions 2026 will be held in a hybrid format, with two in-person sessions at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – located at Sevilla TechPark, on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 April, and two further virtual sessions on Thursday 16 and Friday 17.
According to Álvaro Pimentel, Seville City Council’s Economy Councillor, “the staging of this second edition of New Space & Solutions consolidates Seville as the nerve centre of the aerospace industry in Europe. We are demonstrating that our city is not merely an administrative headquarters, but a technological hub capable of leading the debate on the new space economy. “The City Council is promoting this initiative because we understand that the space sector is a strategic driver for transforming our production model and projecting Seville’s talent onto the most ambitious projects on the global stage.”
For Pimentel, “this forum is tangible proof that Seville is already playing in the ‘top flight’ of exploration and cutting-edge technology. Our local companies demonstrate a mature and competitive innovation ecosystem. We want this event to help the public and the business community understand that space technology is not something distant, but a reality that generates highly skilled jobs and real solutions to the challenges facing our cities. Seville is not just looking to the sky, but is actively building the future of the sector right here.”
Seville, Southern Europe’s space hub
Seville’s emergence as a space hub has been reinforced in recent years by strategic milestones such as the city’s selection as the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency, consolidating its role on the European aerospace map.

Added to this is the launch of ESA-BIC Andalusia (European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre), an initiative by the European Space Agency aimed at supporting the creation and growth of start-ups that use space technologies or develop space-based applications.
This incubation centre facilitates access to funding, technical advice and connections with the industrial ecosystem, helping to revitalise the business community and generate new economic opportunities linked to the space sector in Andalusia.
Institutional support and sectoral dialogue
Seville City Council is playing a decisive role in this process through initiatives such as the Space Forum, designed as a space for dialogue between public administrations, companies, technology centres and universities.
This forum aims to foster public-private collaboration, identify development opportunities and position Seville as a key hub in the new space economy.
Furthermore, the city is an active member of the Ariane Cities Community (ACC), a European network bringing together cities and institutions linked to the space industry, thereby strengthening Seville’s integration into the European aerospace ecosystem.
Seville in the Ariane Cities Community
As part of New Space & Solutions, Seville City Council will organise the panel ‘Seville and Rome in the Ariane Cities Community: boosting the local economy through the space sector’, which will analyse the role of cities as drivers of the sector’s development.
Participants in this panel will include Silvia de los Santos, Technical Director of Sevilla Capital Espacial Española and Head of Aerospace and Production Processes at the Andalusian Technology Corporation (CTA); Fernando Mañes, Deputy Vice-President of the CVA Presidency at Seville City Council; Gaele Winters, General Delegate of the Community of Ariane Cities; and Stefano Carta, Director of Department VII, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The panel will address how collaboration between European cities can help drive local economic development through the space industry, generating opportunities in areas such as innovation, skilled employment and attracting investment.
City strategy and international outreach
The role of Seville City Council in the development of the space sector will also be the focus of an interview during the event. María Medina, Managing Director of Medina Media Events, will interview Álvaro Pimentel, Second Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Cartuja, Innovation Parks, Employment, Economy, Trade and Consumer Affairs at Seville City Council.

During the discussion, key issues will be addressed, such as the strategic projects the city is working on to support start-ups and innovation, including the establishment of ESA-BIC Andalusia in premises owned by Seville City Council – specifically the Naves de Renfe – to raise Seville’s international profile and the medium-term vision to consolidate its position as a space hub. These premises also house the Seville City Council’s Department of Economy and the support services for entrepreneurs under the Sevilla Emprendedora programme.
An expanding ecosystem
Seville City Council’s active participation in New Space & Solutions 2026 reflects the growing role of cities in the development of the space industry, at a time when the sector is emerging as one of the drivers of innovation and economic growth in Europe.
The combination of technological infrastructure, institutional support and international collaboration is enabling Seville to advance its goal of becoming a benchmark within the New Space ecosystem, attracting projects, companies and talent in a sector that is strategic for the future.
All the conferences from New Space & Solutions will be available to watch on demand via The Observatory, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where each conference will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge.
