HAPS: the ‘Towers in the Sky’ that transform connectivity in remote areas and enhance emergency response

Wednesday February 4, 2026 | Evento

  • New Space & Solutions 2026 will address how stratospheric platforms will enable 5G connectivity to be extended beyond current terrestrial networks.
  • Alfredo Serrano, EMEA Director at Sceye, will analyse how these solutions improve coverage and communication quality in rural and remote areas.
  • HAPS offer significant advantages in a number of areas: broadband Internet connection in rural and remote areas; rapid communication infrastructure in disaster situations; IoT connectivity for precision agriculture; and deployment of 5G technology and next-generation communications.
  • The event will hold its second edition from 14 to 17 April 2026 with two in-person days at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – and two virtual days.

The second edition of New Space and Solutions, “Where we tell you what New Space does for us”, to be held in Seville from 14 to 17 April, will once again place the Andalusian capital at the centre of the debate on emerging space technologies. The Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu located in Seville TechPark, will host the two in-person days on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 April, while the two virtual days will be held on Thursday 16 and Friday 17, bringing together international experts to analyse the solutions that are defining the future of the New Space ecosystem.

With a top-level agenda, among the most notable presentations is ‘HAPS – A New Layer of Infrastructure in Near Space’, by Alfredo Serrano, EMEA director of Sceye, a pioneering company in the development of HAPS (High-Altitude Platform Stations). In his presentation, Serrano will explore how these stratospheric platforms are establishing themselves as a new layer of infrastructure between terrestrial networks and satellites, with the capacity to transform current connectivity models.

Alfredo Serrano, EMEA Director of Sceye, during his speech at the first edition of New Space & Solutions held in 2025.

The presentation will focus on the role of HAPS in extending mobile coverage, providing low-latency broadband connectivity and supporting critical applications such as disaster response, rural connectivity, environmental monitoring and advanced data and security services. It will also analyse their potential as a scalable and sustainable solution, capable of integrating naturally with current telecommunications and aerospace ecosystems.

With this presentation, Sceye will bring to New Space & Solutions a strategic vision of ‘Near Space’ as a new area of opportunity for the industry, reinforcing the international and technological nature of an event that aims to establish itself as a leading meeting point for companies, institutions and professionals in the space sector.

All New Space & Solutions presentations will be available for viewing on demand through The Observatory, Medina Media Events’ digital platform, where each presentation will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge.

The second edition of ‘New Space & Solutions’ is organised by Medina Media Events and supported by Seville City Council; the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Regional Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, Canary Islands Aerospace Strategy (Government of the Canary Islands), Netmetrix, Sceye, Pablo de Olavide University, Rohde & Schwarz, PCB Piezotronics, Kistler, Dekra, Solars MEMS, Quside, Systratec Keplerkoord, Augusta Abogados, Mas & Calvet, University of Malaga, Alfalite, Flux, FIDAMC, NDK and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, among others.
