The Cartuja Auditorium in Seville will host from March 17 to 21, 2025 the first edition of the ‘New Space & Solutions’, a pioneering meeting in which women will have a very prominent role and in which the space and satellite industry will come together to jointly explain the solutions they provide to citizens
Are we citizens really aware of the importance of the satellite sector for our daily lives? Would we be able to communicate, entertain ourselves, work or interact as we do today without satellites? What is the point of so much investment in space? These and other questions will be answered at the “New Space & Solutions” event, to be held from March 17 to 21 at the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville.
One of the most prominent speakers will be Miguel Belló, who was the commissioner of the Spanish aerospace PERTE and acting director of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) and is now the executive chairman of the British company Orbex Space, dedicated to the launching of satellites.
Miguel Belló, who during his time as commissioner of the Spanish PERTE oversaw investments of more than 4.5 billion euros, will address “the impact of space and the services derived from space activity on our society”.
“The services that space technology provides to society have become essential for our daily lives and have a direct impact on our economy and the welfare of citizens. Are citizens aware of the importance of satellites for the development of their daily lives? Most of the time we are not aware of it,” says Miguel Belló.
The Cartuja Auditorium in Seville will host this international meeting, which was created with the idea of becoming an annual reference event on how space helps and will help solve the problems of citizens in cities, rural areas, services, travel, companies, homes and businesses.
In addition, experts, companies, universities, institutions and organizations in the space and satellite fields will present their projects, ideas and all the knowledge of an industry that is vital for the development of our daily lives.
Sustainability must also be brought to New Space
With more than 40 years of experience, Miguel Belló is from January 2024 executive chairman of Orbex Space, a British aerospace technology company focused on the development of sustainable rockets for launching small satellites into low orbits. Founded in 2015, the company is headquartered in Forres, Scotland, and operates primarily in the United Kingdom, a country seeking to become a major European hub for commercial space launches.
Orbex is working on the development of ‘Prime’, considered “the most sustainable rocket in the world” for which in April 2024 it secured an investment of almost 20 million euros. “We want to make the cleanest launcher in existence. We use a fuel, biopropane, which reduces the carbon footprint by 95%,” says Belló, for whom “sustainability is a problem in aeronautics, on Earth and in space“.
The first edition of ‘New Space & Solutions’ will turn Seville from March 17 to 21, 2025 into the world capital of space in an event with a hybrid format of two face-to-face days (Monday 17 and Tuesday 18) and three virtual days (Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday 21), of which one will be dedicated to universities and the other to the career of Spanish women who are succeeding in the aeronautical and aerospace world.
All presentations can be followed through ‘The Observatory’, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, in which all interventions will be available 24/365 for consumption on demand, like Netflix, but free of charge.
